Conceptually if you think of an onion with the core removed it would be similar to the structure of the eye. The lens has much less power compared to the cornea but this lens is unlike the lens in a camera are dynamic lens they can change there shape in a process called accommodation and increase there power. There are some important aspects of the structure that helps in better vision. The amount of the light reaching the photographic film or retina is controlled by the pupil that gives us the color of the eyes, hence some people are blue eyed and some are brown eyed. In bright light, the pupil contracts like the diaphragm to decrease the amount of the light whereas in dim light it dilates to increase the amount of light coming in.
